Today, I volunteered at our church in J girl's Sunday school class. Her teacher did a great job teaching them what it means to be filled with the holy spirit. She chose 3 children from the group, one pretended to be the holy spirit, one pretended to be the Christian, and the last one pretended to be our sinful nature. She had a few different scenarios in which the Christian had a choice to make, to follow the holy spirit or to follow his/her sinful nature. So she presents the scenario, then the Christian turns to the sinful nature and it says, "Follow me and you will satisfy your desires." Then the Christian turns to the Holy Spirit and it says, "Follow me and you will be faithful". Then the Christian says, " Which should I choose?" Finally, the Christian makes a choice to follow the holy spirit or the sinful nature. Whenever the Christian follows the Holy Spirit, he is filled with the fruit of spirit which the children had previously learned. J/W can tell you the fruit of the spirit which are, " love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" in a heart beat. And of course, if Christian chose the sinful nature, some of which are envy, anger, lust, selfishness, pride, and etc, he would be feeling those instead. I thought that was a very cool visual way for the children to understand they have a choice and they can make wise choices with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Here are a few of picture of J/W 's Sunday school friends. These kids came to church earlier because their parents are volunteering so I got a chance to take a few pics. :)
