Making Improvements (J)

J made improvement in her copy work today. I asked her how it feels to write slower but neater and she said she feels, "happy!" She went on to say she does not want to write sloppy anymore and wants to write g00000ood."

The verse she copied is from Enki Education. This story was in K fairytales (marked as "older") and is one of the K fairytale she loved and asked to read it again and again when she was just 5. This is also in Enki 1st grade material but I just realized the ending is little different (changed to suit 1st grade developmentally, I believe).
In case you can't see ( the picture will be larger if you click on it, in case anyone doesn't know), below is the actual verse.

The Waterfall of Whitehair (Chinese fairytale- adapted by Enki Education)

Rippling, roaring, rolling down,
River runs along the ground,
Rhyme and rhythm in its song,
Rippling, rolling, running down.

In Enki 1st grade, this is one of the stories one can use to introduce the letter "R". You hear the effect of R through out the verse. My kids loved to figure out the mystery letter upon hearing only the verse.

After we wrote this Enki fairytale story verse, we also acted it out though we did our individual version of it. And after a few times with our movements, we can both recite the verse easily.

Celebration

First, today is daddy's birthday, and the children presented him with these coloring/drawing for his birthday.

This is Prime's work and the next one is J's . :)

I also wanted to share this beautiful book on Fairies. J did her copy work (on Spring) from this book today.

Last but certainly not the least, I am so excited because I found J a wonderful piano teacher at very reasonable prices. I just received notice she have space available for J. J will be starting her private piano lesson middle of April. As I type here, J is playing with the piano again. I love it when she goes and play with it herself. Sweet sounds.

Bits of Classical Education added

We started something new for language arts. Previously, J copied verses from Enki stories and we are still continuing with that but in following bits from the book "The Well Trained Mind" which is like the bible in classical education, I also added copy work from J's current reading list.

Today, she copied from "All of a kind of Family" by Sydney Taylor, a book recommended by Enki. In return, I told her she can skip writing daily journals. But on days she really wants to, she can write journals in place of the copy work but copy work will become a more regular requirement.

I have noticed that as she copies, she is already learning indentation in a new paragraph, spacing behind the start of another sentence, spelling all quite naturally. She is also discovering the importance of paying attention to details which is one of the areas that J needs lots of practice.
