surf board, babydolls, and balloons

This is J's surf board used in her dance recital. She design it but said someone made the board out of paper. How cool. It feels like a real surf board.

J has been designing clothes for her baby doll. I'm not sure where she got the idea but she did. The first one she says, is the doll's PJ and the 2nd one is her "morning dress". She actually learned a thing or two as even with a baby doll, it still takes some planning and pre-measuring before cutting to see that it fit, esp. since her's are taped and not sewn together.

It pays to shop late at Trader Joe's as both kids got all the remaining balloons which was 7-8 balloons for each child. They came home and decorate it right away. These 2 are by J.


Here are Prime's creations. He was a lot more prolific and drew on most all of his balloons; most with a similar theme: cats. The last one he says is called "FLASH". I could barely see but is actually pretty cute.

playdate and 100 days of homeschooling

J didn't do much cooking today but she did watch me cook rice and will be taking over that duty for the most part later in the week. For the most part of the morning, we were busy cleaning our house in anticipation for our friends to come over.

Recently, the kids have had quite a few play dates. The reason is they started to request play dates with their own specific friends. Luckily, they like each others friends. So today, we had Prime's friend over. It worked out nicely. Prime played with D and J played with Issac. J even wants to invite the boys to her birthday party. :)



Today is also our 100 day of homeschooling. So like they did in J's school, the kids both did a little project.

J had no trouble, but it was difficult for Prime as he doesn't fully comprehend the meaning of 100. Yet, he wanted to do the project. In the end, however, I think he made some strides and this is good preparation for next year.

They also did help me put together their wheelbarrow and is having a ball creative play with it AND the 2 boxes which the wheelbarrow came in plus their toys.

Here is an impromptu drawing by my Prime. See J on the right? That's pretty much what J looks like. I was surprised he captured her spirit so well, especially the eyes. J look like she hasn't slept for days and just pitiful overall.

The other thing on the right is Prime's rendition of Fluffy, our hamster.

The Sleeping Bear

Today, I read the story of "The Sleeping Bear" from Enki to W boy. This story is one of Enki's many winter nature story for kindergartners. This is a story is about Una the mother bear hibernating in the winter and giving birth to 2 bear cubs while hibernating. It also talks about what bears do through out the other seasons which pretty much is eat, eat, and eat some more. W boy had some trouble recognizing the seasons in the story. We will still be reading this story a few more times and hopefully W boy will have a deeper understanding of the different seasons in later readings.

Earlier in the morning, W boy also finished writing "counting up to 100". This time, instead of typing the numbers on the computer, W boy wrote in the missing numbers. He still needs some practice with recognizing numbers from 12-30. After 30, he seem to really know his numbers.


The numbers in a box are ones that W boy wrote. I forgot to put a box around 100 but he wrote that as well.

bunny ears

Today, we did a little practice tying shoe strings. W boy knows how to tie a knot, and today he attempted to do the bow tie or the "bunny ears" with much success. This is definitely a good little exercise for his fine motor skill which W boy could use more of. It is so cute to watch his little fingers trying to tie the knot.

Considering this is a skill most first graders either haven't been taught or are not able to do, I would say W boy did a wonderful job. I also taught J girl this when she was 4 though she really mastered this while W boy could still use some more practice. Every time, he does it, I'm not sure if it will come out or not but a lot of times it does. :) We only did it for about 10minutes so really did not take long for W to get fairly good at it.

W boy also learned how to sing an Enki song called "Over the River" as well as the movements for the song. This is his picture drawing of what the song is all about. :) W boy also continues to practice a short song from Enki called "Pitter, patter, polt" which really works on crossing the mid lines and helps W boy to write letters like "s" and differentiating between "b" and "d" and etc.
