Weekend

We had a lovely weekend. I enjoyed a trip to the mall all by myself Sat. while the kids had fun with their cousins and their auntie/uncle. Lots of goofy poses and lots of treats give by auntie T after a fabulous egg hunt. Everybody also had a special extra-large egg with special treats inside. Thanks, auntie T!!



Looking at these pictures just makes me smile. :)

We also cleaned and prepared our garden for the season this afternoon. W found a lot of worms under the bricks and we are starting a worm home. :)

Discovered a centi or milli (?) pede. We found our peppermint is "thinking outside of the box" and growing too prolific. ;-)

Later, we will celebrate Jesus' resurrection with some friends.

Watering our garden

As the kids took turns watering our newly planted plants, I got a chance to take some pictures. The kids spend what seemed to me a very long time discussing who will get to water what. Good grief! Finally, they just took turns. It's interesting how something so simple could be such a big deal to them. I was the one who fill the BIG watering can for them. I'm hoping to get their own real watering can with tiny holes for a better spray. They have also requested their own gardening glove, esp. Prime.


When they are not watering, they are walking on structure and using them as balance beams.

Planting

We finally planted our veggies, and flowers. I was busy working and getting my hands dirty I didn't get a chance to take any photos. The kids also did some planting of seeds and they both dug holes for plants that were in pots.

J was amazed some of the seeds are so tiny like the sweet basil seeds. Here is hoping our plants will grow nice, big, healthy and strong. :)

Unexpected fun

J woke up this morning and made a little person with a cape using wool stuffing. Then she skipped off to make a needle felted girl. For a while, she was afraid the needle might hurt her but this morning she was feeling brave for some reason.


There she goes, making her little person. She says she is going to give it away.


Here is the finished product. Then I decided to glue it to a piece of paper, protect it with saran wrap and make a Popsicle stick frame. J found a magnet that came off so we glued it to the back and now it is on our fridge.

Later, J went outside and had a little building fun... another unexpected fun. She is going to write and share more pictures about that on her blog. I really like the flowering crab apple tree. It will be ever prettier in a week when the flowers bloom.


Then, as we had planned, we can finally do some digging and prepare the soil for some planting. J was super excited about it and couldn't wait to dig.


Prime already tired out after only a little digging. He came back after a little while only to be lured out again by J with the promise of sharper shovel. So, he is sharpening his shovel.


I think they are playing more than digging. J says they are like the family who pulls up the turnip. :-) Prime finally doing some pulling and real work. It is not easy work; good thing we have daddy. :)

Later, their friend A, came out unexpectedly, and the kids had fun jumping on the trampoline. Our Mexican primrose is really blooming... so pretty... I love the light pink.

a little bit of this and a little bit of that

Some of you might have already seen this, but Teaching Handwork blog shows you how to do a double loop finger knit. Anyway, I tried it out and it was fun. Here is the link if you are interested.


Here is mine. Kids younger than kinder can do this, so she says. Anyway, my kids want to make it so we went to hunt for some nicely colored yarn for them to double loop. And those are what the kids picked out. Prime's colors are bold and J's color are springy. They haven't made it yet. They came back and wanted to play tennis and got their rackets and balls out. But I suggested they jump instead.

On our neighbor's trampoline. It's still chilly where I live but the sun is nice. They are having a ball. I can still hear them. :) I love that about spring and the pretty flowers which I'm looking forward to seeing.

I also got these seeds packets and hope to plant them. I wonder where I should plant the sunflowers. Anyone know when sunflowers can be planted? I'll have to do some research.


The kids set up outside a local Blockbuster video and sold lots of cookies. J was on the first shift (1 hour). It was really cold so when there was no one, the girls laid inside a fellow mom's minivan. It was a good experience for J as she doesn't talk to strangers and acts very differently if we don't know the person. ( I think this might be my fault, taught her this a little too well).
